Summary

 

In this chapter, Jesus provides comfort to his disciples in the face of impending challenges, emphasizing the way to God through him and promising the coming of the Holy Spirit. The chapter reveals the close relationship within the Trinity and underscores the importance of faith and obedience in the life of a believer.

 

  1. Jesus Prepares His Disciples (John 14:1-6): Jesus reassures his disciples, encouraging them not to be troubled and assuring them of a place in his Father's house. He declares, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
  2. The Promise of the Holy Spirit (John 14:7-14): Jesus emphasizes the intimate relationship between him, the Father, and the Holy Spirit. He promises that those who believe in him will do greater works, and he encourages them to ask anything in his name.
  3. Another Promise of the Holy Spirit (John 14:15-31): Jesus promises to send the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, who will teach and remind the disciples of his teachings. He speaks of his imminent departure, expressing the peace he leaves with them and urging them to not be troubled.
